The Game of Monopoly

If You are treating Your Life, Business or Social Media and Marketing like a game make no mistake it will hurt you in the long run. I continually see the rants and issues in groups and communities in numerous platforms about the gaming within Businesses, Social Media and Marketing. The question you have to ask yourself is – why are you choosing to buy followers, likes, comments etc. ? The question you have to ask yourself is, are you willing to live with the consequences of ruining your reputation, brand, business ? It truly is not hard to recognize when somebody is using black hat tactics, so why do it ?

If You are a company or individual, there are ways to get authentic followers, comments, feedback, and business… it is called Tribe building, hire an intern or virtual assistant or a team to help You build your tribe and manage your Social Media and Marketing. And, If You are going to to hire a team to assist you in your tribe building, make sure You are actively involved with what You want posted, what wording, etc… Otherwise, again those that know you, are going to know that what is being posted, shared, said is not your personality or brand.

Recently, there was a post written by Percy Lipinski, exposing CNN for sweeping under the carpet about an ICNN Reporter buying views for the pieces she wrote and covered for CNN.

This is would I would like to ask You-
Would You do business or trust someone who did this ?
I wouldn’t. The real take away is this…

Monopoly Money

It is just a Game… or is it ???
I hear this all of the time…
So what… it is just a game…
To that I will say the following:
If You are willing to cheat at a game and are using the excuse…
So what…
It is just Empire Avenue…
It is just Monopoly…
It is NOT REAL Money…
It is NOT REAL life…
And to that I will say…
Where else in your Life are You willing to cheat…
And… that type of person I would NOT be willing to do business with in real life or in the world of Social Media and beyond.

Excellent points written up here. And Percy definitely brought out something very important. If you are scamming and gaming your way through social media, then your tactics will be discovered and no one will trust you again. I know I would not trust anyone who was not being authentic.

You’re so dead on with this post. When I first started my business, someone suggested I “buy” followers and I just didn’t understand why that would really help me in the long run (I didn’t do it!) and just the suggestion sounded wrong.

Great reminder why the authentic building of “tribes’ does pay in the long run.

Excellent point. Being okay with cheating at some things may mean that you are okay with cheating at everything.

Personal integrity is not a game.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Mindy… and Agree completely… Personal Integrity is NOT a game

You raise the number one issue in Social Media – *Integritiy* or in my past offline business life we called if *Professionalism* You either live by this code of ethics or you don’t and if one chooses to *game* Social Media or use Black Hat tactics it won’t be long before the house of cards tumbles.

Now, I am not saying that gaming platforms don’t have a place in Social Media, because I think they do and I am involved with some wonderful communities on my favourite, which is Empire Avenue. They are some incredible, generous and passionate people who play the game but they play it with the same integrity as they would any other arm of their Social Media strategy.

Thanks for Sharing Jackie and Completely Agree… there is a HUGE difference between abusing the gaming system and authenticity and integrity within the gaming.
